Ag Week Baby Honored

The McDonough County Farm Bureau is celebrating National Agriculture Week by honoring the first baby to be born during the third week of March at McDonough District Hospital as the 2013 Ag Baby. Everleigh Lynn, daughter of Nate and Katy Johnson claimed the honor this year. The lucky baby and her parents received a basket full of agriculture related products. Some of the gifts included farm related books and toys, baby wash, and diapers among others.

The Ag Baby promotion was developed to bring awareness to agriculture and its use in our everyday lives.  “There are so many products available today that most people wouldn’t think contained an agriculture product. Even the diapers contain the Super Slurper, which is a corn starch based absorbent material that swells as it gels. It was developed at the National Center for Agricultural Utilization Research center in Peoria!” commented Farm Bureau Manager, Sarah Grant.  “It’s true that you can’t live a day without agriculture!”

National Agriculture Month is celebrated yearly during March. Agriculture awareness events and activities are held across the United States in an effort to recognize and celebrate the contribution of Agriculture to our everyday lives.
