Seventy-eight FFA members, State FFA Officers and chaperones from across Illinois attended the Illinois Farm Bureau & Affiliates Award Tours in Washington D.C. and surrounding areas, June 23-June 28.

Chapters had the opportunity to participate on the tour by winning their section or being named Top 5 in the state through two different award programs – The Heritage Award and The Cooperative Activities Award.

FFA members were selected from the winning chapters in the Heritage Award Program for the chapter’s outstanding heritage program in their home communities.  Activities that chapters conducted to earn them this trip ranged from assisting with local government elections to care and management of a local historical site.

FFA members were selected from the winning chapters in the Cooperative Activities Award Program for their chapter’s outstanding chapter cooperative program.  Activities that chapters conducted to earn them this trip ranged from developing and operating a chapter cooperative to working cooperatively with other groups in their home communities.

Highlights of this year’s tour included stops at the Gettysburg Battlefield, U.S. Library of Congress, Arlington NationalCemetery, Smithsonian Museums, the U.S. Capitol, and other various sites and attractions in D.C..
